Alan Wake 2 | Actor blurts out potential October release

Alan Wake 2 “out in October” says series voice actor Matthew Porretta. Remedy has yet to officially announce a release date.

If anyone’s going to know when an Alan Wake game’s going to come out, it’s the series’ title star – or any rate, the actor who plays him.

Matthew Porretta has played Alan Wake in both the 2010 original, the 2012 American Nightmare DLC, and reprises the role in the upcoming Alan Wake 2. At the time of writing, Remedy Entertainment hasn’t formally announced a release date for the sequel, but in an episode of the podcast Monsters, Madness and Magic, Poretta may have just blurted it out.

“I’ve been working on it,” Porretta said, as picked up by IGN. “That’s supposed to come out in October. We’re in the middle of working on it now. In fact, I was just in Finland last week – that’s where the company’s from…”

Of course, we don’t know whether Porretta’s assertion is correct, but an October release would certainly make sense from a marketing standpoint – it being the month of Halloween and all things spooktacular.

Alan Wake 2 has been a long time coming, with the project started and then either abandoned or repurposed several times over the past decade. Little is known about the sequel in its current form, though writer-director Sam Lake has said it’ll still be a third-person horror game, like its predecessor, and will place more emphasis on “survival horror.” The original Alan Wake was, he’s said, more of an “action game with horror elements.”

Alan Wake 2 is Remedy’s first survival horror game,” Lake said in a 2021 PlayStation Blog. “Our take on the genre. Our opportunity to truly connect the gameplay and the story. It is a deep, layered mystery. So, Alan Wake 2 confirmed and coming in 2023 presented by Epic Games Publishing.”

Is the sequel indeed coming out in October? Only time – or more accurately, the game’s developer and/or publisher – will tell.
