Turn-based strategy/CCG hybrid Duelyst is being nixed next month by its developer, Counterplay Games.

The game’s servers will be shut down on 27th February, it’s been revealed over on Steam.

“We are saddened to announce that the Duelyst servers will be shutting down permanently on February 27th, 2020 at 3:00 PM PST,” wrote Counterplay in a new community post. “Saying goodbye to any game is never easy, and it’s always hardest when you love the game as much as we all love Duelyst. We’re incredibly proud of the effort our developers have put in on Duelyst over the years, and even more proud of the amazing community of friends and gamers that have enjoyed Duelyst.

“We want to thank all of you for being a part of the Duelyst family, and for making our time working on Duelyst the amazing adventure it has been.”

The full version of Duelyst was originally released in 2016. It made for a good Hearthstone rival with a neat twist on the CCG, all things considered, and also received very decent reviews. Later, in 2017, Counterplay handed over publishing responsibilities for Duelyst onto Bandai Namco, and it was hoped that the move would allow Counterplay to focus its time and effort “into creating more fun and engaging features for anyone, casual or hardcore players alike.”

Refunds for Duelyst’s in-game currency will be available as part of the game’s closure plans.
