Shawn Layden is leaving Sony Interactive Entertainment

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Shawn Layden is stepping down from his role as chairman of Worldwide Studios after three years. No information has been forthcoming about the reasons for his departure, or who might replace him.

“It is with great emotion that we announce that Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden will be departing SIE,” the official PlayStation Twitter account posted. “His visionary leadership will be greatly missed. We wish him success in future endeavors and are deeply grateful for his years of service. Thanks for everything, Shawn!”

Layden has spent 32 years working with Sony, and first took up a position as a producer for Sony Computer Entertainment in 1996, later becoming SIE President in 2014. He has been one of the main faces of the PlayStation brand for quite some time, and it’s now clear that 2020’s PS5 launch will be the dawn of a new era in more ways than one.
