Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 is getting Fast & Furious DLC

Channel your inner Dominic Toretto with Hot Wheels Unleashed 2's Fast & Furious DLC, out this October.

Do you remember the bit in Fast X where we see Mia (Jordana Brewster) and Dominic Toretto’s son, Little B, playing an arcade racer in their Los Angeles home? Probably not, because it was quickly replaced by yet another bombastic action scene in traditional Fast & Furious style.

At any rate, the arcade racer briefly glimpsed on-screen was actually the upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged. There’s a good reason for that bit of product placement – Universal Pictures’ gaming arm has long since signed a deal with Mattel and Italian developer Milestone to bring a Fast & Furious-themed content update to the upcoming Hot Wheels sequel.

Released on the same day as Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 in October, the Fast & Furious DLC will feature several vehicles from the film franchise – including Vin Diesel’s “unstoppable” Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody – as well as give players the chance to “replicate some of the most spectacular stunts performed in the films.”

There’s also a teaser trailer to get your adrenaline pumping. Here it is:

“We’re delighted to bring these two iconic racing franchises even closer together in Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged, building on years of collaboration with our wonderful partners at Universal Games and Digital Platforms,” Mike DeLaet, Mattel’s head of digital gaming said in an effusive press release. “You’d be hard pressed to find a more natural pairing than Hot Wheels and Fast & Furious, and the team at Milestone have done an outstanding job with bringing these fan-favourite vehicles to life in authentic Hot Wheels Unleashed fashion.”

The Fast franchise’s increasingly outlandish, physics-defying stunts certainly feels like a logical fit for a Hot Wheels game, though we’re hoping the developers remember to include the occasional digitised clip of Vin Diesel growling something about “FAMILY” to truly capture the movies’ flavour.

Hotwheels Unleashed 2 – Turbocharged, and its Fast & Furious DLC, are out on 16 October for PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
