Hollow Knight: Silksong has been delayed. Team Cherry had “planned to release in the 1st half of 2023″ but the title has “gotten quite big”.

Sad news for fans of insect-based Metroidvanias. The long-awaited sequel to 2017’s Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has been pushed back to an unspecified date beyond June. Last year, after the game was shown at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, it was promised that it would be out within the next 12 months, and would be available on Game Pass at launch.

However, in a Twitter post today, Matthew Griffin at developer Team Cherry has announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong won’t launch in the first half of 2023 as planned, explaining that the new adventure has “gotten quite big” and that the team want to “take the time to make the game as good as we can”.

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced in February 2019. The game, which stars Hollow Knight’s occasional antagonist Hornet, was originally being planned as DLC for the original title, but soon became a full sequel. Hollow Knight: Silksong is set for release on PC, Mac, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S at some unspecified date in the future. Although hopefully not too far in the future.
