Describing Creative Assembly’s upcoming multiplayer shooter Hyenas as “challenging,” Sega says it’s “striving to improve” the game ahead of release.

Announced last year, Hyenas is an upcoming multiplayer shooter from British studio Creative Assembly, and with development handled by many of the team members that previously brought us the positively terrifying Alien: Isolation.

Due to head into closed beta later this month, the game has been described as “challenging” by Sega, a word it appears to be using in relation Hyena’s actual development rather than its difficulty level.

“As this is a challenging title,” a Sega executive said earlier in August, “we are striving to improve its quality towards the release on the front line of development.”

The exchange arose in a Sega fiscal year ending meeting held on 1 August, and a transcript of its Q&A session was uploaded to the company’s website today, 17 August (thanks, IGN).

An unnamed person in the meeting asked for an update on Hyenas, and also asked about its “monetization scheme and impact on earnings.”

In response, a Sega executive said, “We are also making final adjustments to its business model”. It’s an intriguing line, given that Creative Assembly has previously said the game won’t be free to play; it now sounds as though Sega might have other ideas on that front.

Due for release later this year, Hyenas is a somewhat different take on the multiplayer extraction shooter, with its action taking place in zero-gravity arenas and based around breaking into vessels and stealing valuable merchandise.

The game’s due to be shown off at Cologne’s Gamescom later this month, and there’s a closed beta on PC which will run from 31 August to 11 September. That means we should have some more details on the game – and what effect its “challenging” development has had – fairly soon.
