Along with Barbie-themed Xbox controller faceplates, and the news that Barbie’s car is coming to Forza Horizon 5.
The marketing machine for the Barbie movie is cranking into overdrive ahead of the film’s release on 19 July, and one of the most outlandish and unexpected stunts is the debut of an Xbox Series S done up like Barbie’s DreamHouse.
As revealed by Microsoft, the console is a one-off custom design featuring a pink (naturally) Xbox Series S nestled beneath a version of Barbie’s iconic DreamHouse. It seems from the wording that only one of these fantastical consoles has been made, and it will be given away in a competition via Microsoft Rewards.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen an outlandish branded redesign of the Xbox Series S. Earlier this year, there was a competition to win a Series S styled like a giant Oreo, with the console forming the white filling. But considering the devoted collecting scene around Barbie, I can only imagine how many people will be after this DreamHouse console – and how much it could change hands for afterwards.
In addition to the unique Barbie Xbox Series S, Microsoft has revealed five Barbie-branded Xbox controller faceplates, styled after the outfits that Barbie and Ken wear in the Barbie movie. Again, these will be given away as part of a competition – which is a bit of a shame really, as I’m sure a lot of people would love to simply buy one.
Microsoft also showed off a series of Barbie dolls dressed up in Xbox fashion gear, which come with miniature accessories including an Xbox Series S, a Wireless Controller and an Adaptive Controller. Again, these dolls will be given away as part of a sweepstake. It’s not the first time Barbie has embraced her inner gamer: back in 2016, Mattel released Game Developer Barbie, complete with faded jeans and thick-rimmed glasses.
Finally, the news that Barbie’s car will be coming to Forza Horizon 5 leaked a few days ago, but now it’s been officially confirmed. Specifically, the car is a 1956 Chevrolet Corvette EV Corvette in pink, and in addition we’ll be receiving Ken’s 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Both cars will be available to download for free from the in-game Message Center.
