Pokémon Sleep is out on smartphones this month

Channel your inner Snorlax with the Pokémon Sleep smartphone app, now scheduled to launch in July.

Finally – a game we can truly excel at. Not that Pokémon Sleep is really about challenge or skill as such. It’s an upcoming smartphone app which tracks your sleeping patterns and rewards you with sleeping Pokémon – the more sleep you get, the more monsters will appear in your Sleep Style Dex.

There’s stuff to do when you aren’t in bed, too – you can feed your Snorlax berries to increase its strength, and this combined with plenty of sleep will encourage more Pokémon to appear around him. The trailer below describes the app’s sleep-based mechanics in more depth.

Pokémon Sleep is out this month, and its launch will likely coincide with the Pokémon GO Plus + on 21 July (yes, that is it’s proper name – with two pluses) – a Bluetooth device that tracks your slumber at the press of a button. “When it’s time for bed, just hold the device’s central button, place it by your pillow, and then go to sleep,” the device’s webpage explains. “Not only will Pokémon GO Plus + help measure your sleep data, but Pikachu’s familiar voice can give you cute prompts when it’s time to wake up or go to sleep.”

We’re not quite sure how much longevity there is in Pokémon Sleep, if we’re being honest, but if it really can encourage people to get more rest (which, let’s face it, is important for good physical and mental health) then that has to be a good thing. Besides, all those sleeping Pokémon sure look cute.

You can pre-register for the Android version of Pokémon Sleep now over on the Google Play store. For iOS owners, it’s a case of “stay tuned for more updates” according to The Pokémon Company.

We won’t make any grim jokes about finally getting to sleep with Pikachu. That’s more the kind of thing you’d expect to find over on the official Pokémon forum.
