God of War art director Raf Grassetti has joined Netflix Games to work on its top-secret triple-A project.

Whatever Netflix Games is quietly working on away from the public eye, it’s attracting some major talent.

God of War art director Raf Grassetti, who’d been an employee at Santa Monica Studio since 2013, has now announced that he’s the latest high-profile name to join Netflix.

“I’m happy to announce that I’ve joined Netflix to develop a new original IP AAA game,” Grassetti wrote on Twitter. “I’m really excited to build a team and to work with the amazing Joseph Staten, Jerry Edsall and Chacko Sonny to bring a new world to life”.

Grassetti signed off his announcement with a lovely heart emoji, before adding in a follow-up tweet, “Making games is what I love to do and I’m not going away anytime soon.”

This tweet was joined by tiny pictures of a handshake and a round face with a hand on top.

This latest coup for Netflix Games comes just over a month after Halo designer Joseph Staten revealed that he’d joined the streaming giant as a creative director. “I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Netflix Games as Creative Director for a brand-new AAA multiplatform game and original IP. Let’s go!”

We’re sad to report that Staten failed to use a single emoji in his announcement tweet.

Whatever Netflix Games is working on, then, it sounds rather large. Both Grassetti and Staten have worked on some major games in their careers so far; although Grassetti is perhaps best known recently for his work on God of War, he was previously a character artist on Mass Effect 3 and its expansions. Staten previously worked on the Halo series, including the somewhat troubled Halo: Infinite.

Could Netflix Games be working on some sort of sci-fi shooter along Halo or Destiny lines? Let the speculation commence.
