The Lenovo Legion Go looks like a cross between a Steam Deck and a Switch

Leaked images of the Lenovo Legion Go show this Steam Deck competitor has removable controllers, just like the Switch.

A couple of weeks ago, the website Windows Central suggested that the Chinese PC manufacturer Lenovo was working on a competitor to Valve’s Steam Deck. Now, Windows Report has obtained some leaked images of the Lenovo Legion Go, which seem to show that it has removable controllers, just like the Nintendo Switch.

The success of the Steam Deck has indicated that there’s a real demand for PC gaming on the go, and other manufacturers are now racing to release their own portable PC gaming machines. ASUS released the powerful ROG Ally back in June, which runs Windows 11 and boasts better performance than the Steam Deck, although it comes with a fairly hefty £699 price tag.

Both the Steam Deck and the ROG Ally feature fixed controllers – by contrast, the new images of the Lenovo Legion Go seem to show its controllers are removable, just like those on the Switch. The Legion Go screen apparently comes with a stand, so potentially the machine could be popped on a tabletop while the removable controllers are used. However, it’s not yet clear whether the two controller halves can be used for impromptu two-player gaming sessions, as on the Switch.

According to Windows Report, the Lenovo Legion Go will run Windows 11, meaning it could potentially be used for the full PC experience. The website also alleges that the Legion Go will be powered by AMD’s new Phoenix processors, which were revealed back in January and are designed to be used with premium ultra-thin laptops. In addition, Windows Report notes that the images show the Legion Go has two USB-C ports and a headphone jack, as well as a microSD card slot, which could be handy for loading games onto the system.
