Alan Wake 2 launch date pushed back by 10 days to ‘give more space’

Alan Wake 2 launch date

Remedy announces that Alan Wake 2 will launch on 27 October rather than 17 October, as it jostles for a niche in a packed schedule.

Remedy Entertainment has said that the long-awaited Alan Wake 2 will now be arriving on 27 October, a full ten days after its original release date of 17 October.

In a statement on the official Alan Wake 2 account on X (the website formerly known as Twitter), the company said: “October is an amazing month for game launches and we hope this date shift gives more space for everyone to enjoy their favorite games. We can’t wait to show you what everyone’s favorite novelist is up to in the Dark Place next week. Thanks for your patience!”

Alan Wake 2's original release date of 17 October was just three days before the double whammy launch of Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on 20 October. It’s likely that Remedy wants to avoid competing directly with these two behemoths; by launching a week later than them, Alan Wake 2 might have a little more space to breathe in the release schedule, and could potentially gain a bit more media coverage.

But the new release date of 27 October now means Alan Wake 2 will arrive just two days after THQ Nordic’s reboot of Alone in the Dark, which launches on 25 October. Both games are in the survival horror genre, and both are likely to be targeting the same audience, so going directly head to head like this is unlikely to benefit either game.

Let’s see what happens next. Will THQ Nordic also push back their release date? The battle of the October release dates is hotting up…
