Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer appearing on Nintendo Switch, Firaxis has announced. The PS4 and Xbox One versions are out on 11 May, though.
Superhero-themed strategise-’em-up Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer heading to Nintendo Switch, its publisher and developer have announced.
The news emerged on 2K Games’ website (as spotted by IGN), which proudly states that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Midnight Suns will launch on 11 May. Tucked away further down the post, though, are the words: “Note that a Nintendo Switch version of Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer planned.”
To date, neither 2K nor developer Firaxis Games has explained why the Switch port – which was part of the intended line-up back when we previewed Midnight Suns last year – has been quietly dropped.
The better news, particularly for Xbox One and PS4 owners, is that their port of the game will land at the same time as the latest batch of Midnight Suns DLC, Blood Storm.
This fourth content drop “introduces Storm as a playable hero and [introduces] new missions in the DLC-spanning vampyre storyline,” 2K writes. “If you can rise to the challenge and successfully complete all DLC story missions for Deadpool, Venom, Morbius, and Storm, a final showdown against an age-old monster of myth awaits you!”
We can only guess at who that age-old monster could be. Maybe it’s capitalism?
Both Blood Storm and the three previous DLC installments will be available for buyers of the Marvel’s Midnight Suns Legendary Edition, or those who’ve shelled out for a season pass.
Originally released in December 2022, Marvel’s Midnight Suns was widely praised for taking a more cerebral approach to its superhero premise (something you’d expect from the designers of XCOM, let’s face it), though the game was described by Strauss Zelnick (boss of 2K parent company, Take Two) as something of a commercial disappointment.
