Starfield: Expect violence, blood and use of drugs, says ESRB rating

Starfield Twitter header

Starfield will have all sorts of grown-up stuff happening. At least that’s according to the the ESRB rating, which was revealed ahead of time on the game’s Twitter page.

The official Starfield Twitter page has revealed the game’s ESRB rating, seemingly before the ESRB had a chance to get around to revealing it itself. The header on the Starfield Twitter page was updated over the weekend to show the game’s ‘Mature 17+’ rating, but details of the rating didn’t appear on the ESRB’s own website until Monday.

According to the ESRB, we can expect Starfield to feature ‘Blood’, ‘Strong Language’, ‘Suggestive Themes’, ‘Use of Drugs’ and ‘Violence’. So pretty much par for the course when it comes to Bethesda games: Fallout 76, Fallout 4 and Fallout 3 all received a Mature 17+ rating.

The ESRB rating summary also reveals a few more titbits of information, including some incredibly awkward pillow talk: “The game contains some suggestive material in the dialogue, and after sharing a bed with characters (e.g., “Life is a sexually transmitted disease that’s a hundred percent fatal”; “I’m all for getting a little wild, but next time let’s try it without the jetpacks”; “Talk about seeing stars, whew… that was amazing.”).”

As we knew already, the drug Aurora will feature prominently in the game, with the ESRB noting that there is “a section involving players’ characters working in an illicit drug lab”.

Aurora is obtained from a fish found on an aquatic planet, and the pleasure city of Neon is dedicated to processing and selling the drug, as revealed in a previous video.

More details on Starfield are set to be revealed in the Starfield Direct on 11th June at 10am Pacific Time (which is 6pm BST). Starfield is set to be released on Xbox and PC on 6th September.
