Baldur’s Gate 3 bard bears a striking resemblance to Jethro Tull

Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull with flute

A seemingly official piece of Baldur’s Gate 3 artwork showing a flute-playing demon bard looks a lot like Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull.

In the new issue of Future Publishing’s PLAY magazine, there’s a piece of Baldur’s Gate 3 artwork showing a demon bard playing a flute. But PLAY games editor Jess Kinghorn notes on X (Twitter) that when she showed the image to her mum, she pointed out that it bears a strong resemblance to Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull.

Jethro Tull is a British progressive rock band that originally formed in the late 1960s, and is still going today. The group is fronted by lead vocalist and songwriter Ian Anderson, who also plays a range of instruments, notably the flute. And the Baldur’s Gate 3 demon bard certainly bears a strong resemblance to the image of Ian Anderson on the front cover of the Jethro Tull Flute Solos sheet music, right down to the purple costume.

It appears that the demon bard image may have been provided to PLAY by Larian Studios, so we’ve reached out to the Baldur’s Gate 3 developer to ask who the artist is and whether they’re a Tull fan. We’ll update this article if we find out more.
