The remake of Lollipop Chainsaw is now a remaster

Yoshimi Yasuda has said that Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be a remaster – although he didn’t clarify what that means.

What’s the difference between a remake and a remaster?

It’s a tricky one, but if I had to take a stab at an answer, I’d say that a remake is a complete reimagining of a game from the ground up, whereas a remaster is more about polishing up the existing game.

Well, apparently Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP is now going to be a remaster, according to Dragami Games head Yoshimi Yasuda. “We have changed the game design of RePOP from Remake to Remaster based on your requests!” he said on X (aka Twitter).

Previously, Yasuda had said that the new version of 2012’s Lollipop Chainsaw would not change the story or aesthetics of the original, which kind of sounds to me like it was a remaster already. But anyway, it’s definitely one now.

Lollipop Chainsaw was originally created by Suda51’s Grasshopper Manufacture, but the remake – sorry, remaster – is being handled by Dragami Games, which Yasuda founded in 2022. Yasuda was an executive producer on the original game.
