Along with Fighting Vipers 2, Daytona USA 2 will be included as a mini game in Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

The latest issue of Famitsu has appeared, and with it comes the news that Daytona USA 2 is finally coming to consoles – as a mini game in Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.

Players have long been able to head to the arcade and play classic Sega games in the Like A Dragon series (which was previously known as Yakuza in the west). Previous entries have featured games like OutRun, Space Harrier and Virtua Fighter 5.

Now, the latest issue of Famitsu (no. 1814) confirms that the upcoming Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name will feature Daytona USA 2 (billed as Sega Racing Classic 2 in the game), alongside the brawler Fighting Vipers 2 and the shoot ’em up Galaxy Force.

The inclusion of Daytona USA 2 is a big deal, since the game has never been ported to consoles before. It debuted in arcades in 1998, but never made it over to the Sega Dreamcast, which instead received Daytona USA 2001.

The 3D beat ’em up Fighting Vipers 2 is also an exciting inclusion. It also debuted in arcades in 1998, and featured an interesting mechanic whereby combatants wore armour which could be smashed off bit by bit, leaving parts of their body more exposed to damage. The game was ported to the Dreamcast in Japan and Europe, but wasn’t released in the United States.

Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is a spinoff of the main Like A Dragon series that stars the series’ original protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. It’s set after the events of Yakuza 6, and sees Kazuma take on the role of a secret agent.

Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name is set to be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on 9th November 2023.
