Castlevania Advance Collection, Clock Tower, Tomba and GEX are among the upcoming titles announced by Limited Run Games during its LRG3 showcase.
Last night’s Limited Run Games showcase – which the company refers to as LRG3 2023 – saw well over 20 upcoming games announced. Among the most eye-catching is WayForward’s Clock Tower remaster, which we wrote about in a separate post – but the rest of the list provides an array of classic games and modern indies, which will all get physical releases in the near future.
The Castlevania Advance Collection gathers together three series entries once combined to the Game Boy Advance’s dinky screen – on there you’ll find Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Harmony of Dissonance, Aria of Sorrow, plus the Super Nintendo’s Dracula X thrown in for good measure. Each game will include a rewind feature, save states, plus the ability to switch between Japanese, US and European versions.
Slightly more leftfield was The Gex Trilogy, a collection of Crystal Dynamics’ 1990s 3D platformers. One 90s platformer we’re really excited to see make a return, though, is Tomba!, a 1997 action opus designed by Tokuro Fujiwara, better known for such corkers as Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Strider and numerous entries in the Mega Man series. Once exclusive to the PS1, Tomba! has become such a cult item that copies of it are horrifyingly expensive these days; Limited Run Games’ port to PS4 and PS5 (using its proprietary Carbon Engine) means more of us will get the chance to play it.
On the subject of expensive cult games, WayForward is bringing the once-cancelled Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution to the Game Boy Advance. Originally in development in the 2000s, Shantae Advance was abandoned following the disappointing sales of its Game Boy Color predecessor, Shantae (which is now incredibly expensive if you’re after a complete copy).
Fortunately, WayForward kept its work in progress, and is now giving it a physical release as a proper Game Boy Advance cartridge.
